RSS OISST v5.0 now available

 

Remote Sensing Systems has updated its optimally interpolated (OI) SST products to version 5.0.

Significant changes from version 4.0 include:

• GMI is added to both MW and MW_IR products
• VIIRS-NPP is added to the MW_IR product
• The diurnal warming model is updated
• The sensor-specific error statistics (SSES) for each microwave sensor are updated
• The quality control of sensor SST is adjusted so the rain (MW) or cloud (IR) erosion is consistent
• The sensor correlation model is updated

The foundation SST estimates are available in two formats:

• Gzipped bytemap files in the same format as the version 4.0 product
• L4 netCDF files following the GHRSST Data Specification 2.0

The v5.0 MW product is currently available from 1998-01-01 to present. The v5.0 MW_IR product is currently available from 2013-01-01 and will be back-processed to 2002-06-01 over the coming months as resources permit.
